Good timing and coordination is essential for effective striking in any Combat sport but outside of Boxing it is often overlooked. There are many training exercises that need to be incorporated into your training and improvements in your striking will undoubtedly follow.
The Speedball, floor to ceiling ball and jump rope are 3 simple items that you can improve your timing and coordination by a long shot. They are all simple and inexpensive.

These items are not only great for improving your timing and coordination but this type of training will help to improve general fitness at the same time. It also adds a fun element which is always an important factor in training.
With such training, timing and coordination becomes much more natural, striking more effectively at a sub conscious level.
The importance behind good timing is simple, well timed strikes, just as the opponent is moving-in will increase the impact substantially just as strikes contacting the target just as it is moving away will be far less effective. Improved timing and coordination will help with other aspects of your Jiu-Jitsu such as throwing techniques where you need to cash in on windows of opportunity after creating an imbalance in your opponent before taking them to ground. Even joint locking techniques require good timing and outside of using the items of equipment mentioned above, there are also many flow drills that you should look to incorporate into your training schedule.
