Teaching kids at an early age the value of discipline and respect can go a long way.
It was great to see our own Club - Jiu Jitsu Calgary in action on CBC News yesterday when they were reporting on a study by the British Medical Journal who tracked nearly 4000 children, born in the UK in 1946.
About a quarter of these children between the ages of 13 and 15 in the study were identified for Bad behaviour in adolescence in areas such as Disobedience, lying, Lack of Punctuality, Skipping Class, Restlessness and Day Dreaming in Class.
The follow up study which was done about 40 years later, showed that troubled kids commonly became troubled adults and more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety, have troubled families and various other troubles throughout their lives.
It is great to know that we can make such a big difference in the lives of many people by helping to build good attributes in them while they are still children, avoiding much of the potential bad behavior in adolescence.

[…] There is so much to be gained by kids attending Martial Arts Classes and I really hope that parents recognise the true benefits that extend far beyond learning Self Defense and establishing a bit of additional confidence. Some of the values gained through Martial Arts will not only be a great help through School and home but will last a lifetime. If there are aspects of training that you feel strongly about, whether it ’s something you like or dislike then please feel free to contact me. We need your feedback so we can continue helping students growing in the right direction. You will see that we repeatedly help the students begin to understand some important words such as Discipline, Self Discipline, Respect, Focus and Concentration. By helping them understand such virtues, they become much more than important words. It was great to be part of the Story on CBC News that was emphasizing the fact that structured programs like Martial Arts can really help teenage kids throughout the course of their lives. ==> Read More <== […]

[…] Kids Classes The Kids classes are going very well, it’s such a pleasure to see the kids making such progress. I look forward to seeing them perform in the upcoming Grading. I’m looking to Introduce a couple more class times for Juniors to ensure we can give enough individual attention to students and to ensure we do not get overcrowded in the Dojo. The intended extra days are Monday (6 - 6:45pm) and Wednesday (6 - 6:45pm). Please let me know if you are interested in having your kids at these times. As you are an existing Member, you will have first choice for switching over to these days. Monday and Wednesday or Friday and Sunday We are looking to Introduce another session for Little Samurai for the same reason. The additional Little Samurai Class will still be on the Sunday but starting at 2pm. […]
